The reporter learned from the 2008 China International Conference on Nuclear Energy that the first commercial demonstration nuclear power plant of 200,000 kilowatt modular high temperature gas-cooled reactor, Shandong Rongcheng Shidao Bay nuclear power project, invested and controlled by Huaneng, is scheduled to start construction in September next year and will be completed in 2013. Industry insiders believe that under the background of China's energy restructuring, Shandong Rongcheng Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Project has an advantage of low cost and can be used in hydrogen production.

 

Wang Yingsu, general manager of Huaneng Nuclear Power Development Co., Ltd., said that through continuous design optimization and system simplification, the best goal is to shorten the construction period to about three years, reduce investment to RMB 10,000 per kilowatt, and the electricity price on the grid does not exceed RMB 0.3 per kilowatt. Chen Jing, chief designer of high temperature gas-cooled reactor project and assistant chief engineer of China Nuclear Energy Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters that the project can not only be used for power generation, but also for hydrogen production. One person in the industry pointed out that the 21st century is the era of hydrogen economy, for example, electric vehicles began to use hydrogen as energy.
